Today we’re going to talk about the statute, or the numbers involved with a DUI. What is a DUI? If you get a DUI or somebody you know gets a DUI most likely they’re going to end up with a ticket or a release document from the jail, and it’s going to have a series of numbers on it. In California those numbers are VC, it stands for vehicle code, followed by 23152a and 23152b. Now what do those code sections mean? Well 23152a means that you are charged with driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and drugs. Now it says “and drugs”, don’t let that bother you; it’s primarily alcohol that were dealing with. The second code section you’ll see is VC 23152b; that means that you’re charged with driving over the legal limit of .08 or greater blood alcohol content. It’s that simple. You’ll see that 23152a and 23152b, they’re both vehicle codes. That’s the state of California; now it may be different in your state. “Driving a vehicle”, that can also mean you may be in a boat, it maybe a very similar code section, but you’re driving a vehicle. Now generally that’s a motor vehicle in most cases, and we associate that with cars. In Oxnard, there is an extra $241 charge for the police to release the vehicles taken from us. Forced to pay over $1500 in fees (ransom) due to the 30-Day Impound hold, many residents are forced to leave their cars in the impound yard, where they are later sold. Warrants and arrests related to unpaid tickets often lead to incarceration and detention. Surveillance video released Friday from a fuel station shows customers running for safety as a car crashes into a fuel pump and causes the collapse of the metal awning above the pumps., the camera was able to capture the immediate aftermath, including a large fireball. Three men can be seen fleeing from the blaze. About 10 seconds after impact, a female passenger exits a vehicle stopped at an adjacent pump. She pauses for a moment, looks at the damage and then takes shelter with another woman inside the Chevron station. The driver of the Nissan, Travis Kolbo, was fleeing from deputies before the crash, said sheriff’s Sgt. Richard Cohen. One witness told investigators that the vehicle was traveling at a speed of about 100 mph. Kolbo, a 30-year-old Newhall resident, and his passenger, Kimberly Cameron, 30, were trapped in the wreckage. The car was wedged between a post and a collapsed roof at one of the gas pumps, fire officials said. Firefighters also put out a small fire at the scene. Emergency crews used the “jaws of life” extraction device to remove the driver and passenger from the burned wreckage of the Nissan. Authorities said the motorists were hospitalized with leg injuries. The crash near Newhall Avenue and Sierra Highway was reported at 2 am, Dispatch Supervisor Michael Pittman of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
